Chosan #11, the Marine Corps League Detachment 11 — Azusa, CA. The detachment dates to 1972, when veterans home from the Second World War and Korea wanted a room of their own and a way to keep serving after the uniform came off.
The work is ordinary and steady. A flag detail at a funeral. A winter drive that fills a corner of the hall with gifts. A scholarship evening where the members hand an envelope to a student and then go back to the coffee. None of it is loud. All of it is the point of the charter.

Notes from the first meeting

Showing up for the spring scholarship — Azusa
By spring the hall had the spring scholarship underway. Nothing about it was complicated. The Detachment 11 set a date, split the jobs, and showed up. A few neighbors who are not members came for the afternoon and stayed to ask about the next meeting — Azusa.

What the notebook says so far
Late summer the detachment looked back at the notebook.
