Peacekeepers #1492. Its detachment has met since 1982 — Ocean City, MD. The charter came in the years after Vietnam and the years that followed, and the members who stayed treated the monthly meeting as a standing promise: show up, look after one another, and leave the town a little better.

By spring the hall had the spring scholarship underway. Nothing about it was complicated. The Detachment 1492 set a date, split the jobs, and showed up. A few neighbors who are not members came for the afternoon and stayed to ask about the next meeting — Ocean City.

Late summer the detachment looked back at the notebook.
