Rogue Valley #386, the Marine Corps League Detachment 386 — between Jordan and Josephine Counties, OR. The detachment dates to 1954, when veterans home from the Second World War and Korea wanted a room of their own and a way to keep serving after the uniform came off.
The work is ordinary and steady. A flag detail at a funeral. A winter drive that fills a corner of the hall with gifts. A scholarship evening where the members hand an envelope to a student and then go back to the coffee. None of it is loud. All of it is the point of the charter.

Notes from the first meeting

By spring the hall had the Memorial Day wreath underway. Nothing about it was complicated. The Detachment 386 set a date, split the jobs, and showed up. A few neighbors who are not members came for the afternoon and stayed to ask about the next meeting — between Jordan and Josephine Counties.
