In 1980 a handful of veterans chartered Detachment 608 — Colchester, VT. From that first meeting the detachment grew into a hall that still marks the year with a memorial service, a community project, and a table full of people who know one another’s stories.
The work is ordinary and steady. A flag detail at a funeral. A winter drive that fills a corner of the hall with gifts. A scholarship evening where the members hand an envelope to a student and then go back to the coffee. None of it is loud. All of it is the point of the charter.
The regular meeting is 3rd Thursday, 1:00 PM. Anyone planning to visit should confirm the night before they come, because a funeral detail or a weather delay can move it. By spring the hall had the Memorial Day wreath underway. Nothing about it was complicated. The Detachment 608 set a date, split the jobs, and showed up. A few neighbors who are not members came for the afternoon and stayed to ask about the next meeting — Colchester.

What the notebook says so far
Late summer the detachment looked back at the notebook.
