Antelope Valley #930. Its detachment has met since 1984 — Lancaster, CA. The charter came in the years after Vietnam and the years that followed, and the members who stayed treated the monthly meeting as a standing promise: show up, look after one another, and leave the town a little better.

Notes from the first meeting

By spring the hall had the Memorial Day wreath underway. Nothing about it was complicated. The Detachment 930 set a date, split the jobs, and showed up. A few neighbors who are not members came for the afternoon and stayed to ask about the next meeting — Lancaster.

Late summer the detachment looked back at the notebook.
