- Van Wert, OH
American Legion Post 178 Isaac Van Wert, the American Legion Post 178 — Van Wert, OH. The post dates to 1943, when veterans home from the World Wars wanted a room of their own and a way to keep serving after the uniform came off.
The work is ordinary and steady. A flag detail at a funeral. A winter drive that fills a corner of the hall with gifts. A scholarship evening where the Legionnaires hand an envelope to a student and then go back to the coffee. None of it is loud. All of it is the point of the charter.
Meetings are the third Wednesday at 6:30 PM, at the hall — Van Wert. This page is a sample so neighbors can see the shape of the work. The group itself has not claimed the page, so the stories here are an illustration, written in the voice the post might use.

Showing up for the Memorial Day wreath — Van Wert
By spring the hall had the Memorial Day wreath underway. Nothing about it was complicated. The Post 178 set a date, split the jobs, and showed up. A few neighbors who are not members came for the afternoon and stayed to ask about the next meeting — Van Wert.

The honor detail had been out more than once, the community table had fed a crowded room, and the officers reminded everyone that the next business meeting is the third Wednesday at 6:30 PM. This note is a sample of how the post might tell that year — Van Wert, OH.
