- Valley Center, KS
American Legion Post 73 Smith Phipps, the American Legion Post 73 — Valley Center, KS. The post dates to 1961, when veterans home from the Second World War and Korea wanted a room of their own and a way to keep serving after the uniform came off.
People point to the post for the Memorial Day observance and for the quieter help that never makes a program — Valley Center. The Legionnaires would rather be useful than famous, which is why the hall still smells like coffee on meeting night.
The meeting line says the first Thursday at 7:00 PM, which is the rhythm the directory lists. Come for the business, stay for the people. The portraits and the posts here are sample material, standing in until the post writes its own — Valley Center, KS.
