VFW Post 12177 Devils Brigade -Mt. Its post has met since 1929 — Fort Harrison, MT. The charter came in the years after the World Wars, and the comrades who stayed treated the monthly meeting as a standing promise: show up, look after one another, and leave the town a little better.
The work is ordinary and steady. A flag detail at a funeral. A winter drive that fills a corner of the hall with gifts. A scholarship evening where the comrades hand an envelope to a student and then go back to the coffee. None of it is loud. All of it is the point of the charter.

By spring the hall had the spring scholarship underway. Nothing about it was complicated. The Post 12177 set a date, split the jobs, and showed up. A few neighbors who are not members came for the afternoon and stayed to ask about the next meeting — Fort Harrison.
