VFW Post 1856 Iowa Walter Porsch, the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States Post 1856 — Fort Dodge, IA. The post dates to 1922, when veterans home from the World Wars wanted a room of their own and a way to keep serving after the uniform came off.
The work is ordinary and steady. A flag detail at a funeral. A winter drive that fills a corner of the hall with gifts. A scholarship evening where the comrades hand an envelope to a student and then go back to the coffee. None of it is loud. All of it is the point of the charter.
Meetings are the second Tuesday at 7:00 PM, at the hall — Fort Dodge. This page is a sample so neighbors can see the shape of the work. The group itself has not claimed the page, so the stories here are an illustration, written in the voice the post might use.
