Purpose

VFW Post #5814

David City NE

VFW Post 5814, the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States Post 5814 — David City, NE. The post dates to 1966, when veterans home from the Second World War and Korea wanted a room of their own and a way to keep serving after the uniform came off.

People point to the post for the Memorial Day observance and for the quieter help that never makes a program — David City. The comrades would rather be useful than famous, which is why the hall still smells like coffee on meeting night.

The regular meeting is the second Tuesday at 7:00 PM. Anyone planning to visit should confirm the night before they come, because a funeral detail or a weather delay can move it. Between meetings the comrades stay in touch the old way: at the hall, and through the officers listed on this sample site — David City, NE.

    Notes from the first meeting

VFW Post 5814. The year opens the usual way: a short meeting, a full pot of coffee, and a list of local families the post already knows. The comrades voted to keep the spring scholarship on the calendar and to pass the word person to person — David City, NE.

Showing up for the spring scholarship — David City

By spring the hall had the spring scholarship underway. Nothing about it was complicated. The Post 5814 set a date, split the jobs, and showed up. A few neighbors who are not members came for the afternoon and stayed to ask about the next meeting — David City.

What the notebook says so far

Late summer the post looked back at the notebook. The honor detail had been out more than once, the community table had fed a crowded room, and the officers reminded everyone that the next business meeting is the second Tuesday at 7:00 PM. This note is a sample of how the post might tell that year — David City, NE.
