VFW Post 699 Belle Vernon Area. Its post has met since 1962 — Belle Vernon, PA. The charter came in the years after the Second World War and Korea, and the comrades who stayed treated the monthly meeting as a standing promise: show up, look after one another, and leave the town a little better.
People point to the post for the Memorial Day observance and for the quieter help that never makes a program — Belle Vernon. The comrades would rather be useful than famous, which is why the hall still smells like coffee on meeting night.
