VFW Department of Michigan. Its post has met since 1961 — MI. The charter came in the years after the Second World War and Korea, and the comrades who stayed treated the monthly meeting as a standing promise: show up, look after one another, and leave the town a little better.
People point to the post for the Memorial Day observance and for the quieter help that never makes a program — MI. The comrades would rather be useful than famous, which is why the hall still smells like coffee on meeting night.

Notes from the first meeting

By spring the hall had a Saturday of hall repairs underway. Nothing about it was complicated. The Department set a date, split the jobs, and showed up. A few neighbors who are not members came for the afternoon and stayed to ask about the next meeting — MI.
